Three doors float in a dark hallway, balancing on thin pools of light seeping out from underneath the cracks. Three doors remain closed, sealing beyond them what was once whole into fragments now unreachable.

I walk to the closest door, push it open, close it.

My toes are cold on the wood floor. I lock the door behind me and smile. I’m alone at last.
